Raised on a dairy property in Maleny, the O’Reilly brothers, Vince & Peter, returned to live at the O’Reilly’s plateau with their parents in 1944, and began working full-time in the family guesthouse in 1954. They took over operations in the early ’70s, with Pete looking after the transition of O’Reilly’s from country guesthouse to the iconic ecotourism venture it is today. Peter retired from full-time work in 1988 and is widely recognised as a pioneer of ecotourism within Australia.
Lift a glass and toast to the memory of Big Pete and his efforts to eco-tourism and conservation.
Big Pete’s Ruby-Red Port offers rich berry flavors with subtle hints of smooth chocolate, creating a luxuriously sweet and indulgent experience. It is bold yet approachable, making it perfect for sipping slowly after a meal or sharing with friends. The wine opens with vibrant blackberry and plum notes, which blend seamlessly with gentle chocolate undertones, finishing with a smooth, lingering richness.
Port is a fortified wine that originates from Portugal’s Douro Valley. During production, winemakers add a grape spirit midway through fermentation. This preserves natural sweetness and boosts the alcohol, resulting in a rich, high-alcohol wine with concentrated flavor. At O’Reilly’s, we age Big Pete’s Port carefully in barrels within our onsite Wine Cellar. This process enhances depth and complexity. Additionally, our Wine Cellar serves as a stunning function space, often hosting weddings and special events, providing a unique setting to enjoy this wine.
Serve it slightly chilled or at room temperature. Pair it with rich desserts, chocolate, dried fruits, or enjoy it as a decadent sip on its own.
