Lona’s Story
Lona Valerie O’Reilly (nee Murphy), loving wife of second generation family member Vince, is a respected matriarch of the O’Reilly family. For almost 40 years, Lona looked after the financial responsibilities of the business, while also raising their 10 children on the mountain.
This wine is a celebration, not only of Lona, but of all the mothers and the unconditional love they share with their families.
Lona Blush Sparkling Semillon – 750ml
Our Lona Blush Sparkling Semillon is vibrant, fruit-forward, and delicately kissed with a soft blush of colour. It opens with aromas of wild strawberry, crisp red apple, and a touch of citrus zest. Thanks to six months of lees aging, the palate shows gentle creaminess and added depth. These layers balance beautifully with lively acidity and a hint of sweetness, creating a refreshing and elegant finish.
This blush style takes inspiration from the rosé tradition, where red grapes spend only a short time on their skins. This limited contact gives the wine its pale pink hue and light, graceful body. Blush wines are known for their bright fruit, soft sweetness, and easy-drinking nature, and our Lona Blush Sparkling celebrates all of these qualities while remaining refined and expressive.
Lees aging also plays a key role in its character. During this time, the fine yeast cells break down naturally, adding subtle texture, roundness, and depth. This process brings an extra layer of sophistication, enhancing the natural fruit notes without overwhelming them.
