Bernard was an Australian Bushman. He was born in an isolated pioneer home where he grew up attuned to his bush surroundings. His deep, sensitive, enquiring mind led him to a lifelong quest for knowledge of nature in every form, from philosophy and the universe, to birds, flowers, and frogs. He saw grandeur in nature and loved people, music and life generally, all of which he reflected in his books and poems. He took and enduring and humble attitude to all the life presented to him which included serving in World War II, establishing the O’Reilly’s Guesthouse in 1926, and the search and rescue of the Stinson Plane Crash in 1937. Bernard was a man of his time. Drink this in praise of an adventurous Aussie spirit.
Hand-picked by our devoted Wine Club Members on the 19th of February 2023, these Chambourcin grapes are nurtured at our Canungra Vineyard Estate. This French-American hybrid grape is one of our key varieties, thriving in Queensland’s tropical climate thanks to its natural resistance to fungal diseases.
The wine displays exquisite aromas of Maraschino cherry and boysenberry, complemented by subtle Eastern spices and undertones of raspberry coulis. On the palate, juicy red fruit flavors shine, balanced by elegant tannins and gentle acidity, leading to a soft, delectable finish.
Bernard Reserve Chambourcin is a versatile food wine. Enjoy it now with slow-cooked pork belly and sweet potato mash, or pair it with hearty dishes like slow-cooked beef cheeks or lamb.
