Bernard’s Story
Alfonso Bernard O’Reilly – Vintage 1903 – 1975
Bernard was an Australian Bushman. He was born in an isolated pioneer home where he grew up attuned to his bush surroundings. His deep, sensitive, enquiring mind led him to a lifelong quest for knowledge of nature in every form, from philosophy and the universe, to birds, flowers, and frogs. He saw grandeur in nature and loved people, music and life generally, all of which he reflected in his books and poems. He took and enduring and humble attitude to all the life presented to him which included serving in World War II, establishing the O’Reilly’s Guesthouse in 1926, and the search and rescue of the Stinson Plane Crash in 1937. Bernard was a man of his time. Drink this in praise of an adventurous Aussie spirit.
Hand-Picked by our devoted Wine Club Members on the 19th of February 2023, these Chambourcin grapes are nurtured at our Canungra Vineyard Estate. The exquisite aromas of Maraschino Cherry and Boysenberry are perfectly complimented by hints of Eastern Spices and accompanied by undertones of Raspberry Coulis. The palate reveals juicy red fruits, exuding elegance and complexity. A soft and delectable finish accentuated by alluring tannins and gentle acidity. Savour it now, ideally with a Slow-Cooked Pork Belly and Sweet Potato Mash.
An excellent food wine that will pair perfectly with Slow-Cooked Beef Cheeks.
